  • Introduction: Presentation on the Politics of Modern-Day Turkey by David Fenner, scholar and administrator, UW Seattle.

This overview of Turkey today will review the historical and political foundations of the modern Turkish state, its leadership, internal affairs, populist movements and the country’s role in the complex geopolitics of the Middle East.  Additionally, we shall explore the increasingly authoritarian rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the currently fluid state of US - Turkish relations.
