We invite you to the Simpson Intercultural Center's QT Pride Space for our upcoming Talkin' History event with Dr. Cookie Woolner, Associate Professor of History at the University of Memphis. Dr. Woolner will join us virtually to discuss the importance of learning about lesser-known queer histories from before the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, and the significance of learning about these histories right now.

Featured Speaker Bio: Cookie Woolner is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Memphis where she teaches classes on modern U.S. history, women’s and gender history, queer history, and popular music, culture, and performance. Her first book, The Famous Lady Lovers: Black Women and Queer Desire before Stonewall (UNC Press, 2023) received honorable mention for the 2024 Letitia Woods Brown Book Award for the best book in Black women’s history from the Association of Black Women Historians. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the newly published Schlager Anthology of LGBTQ History, a collection of primary sources for queer history aimed at students. Woolner is currently writing a chapter on the history of bisexuality for the second edition of The Routledge History of Queer America and an article on the late-twentieth century queer punk band Tribe 8 for The Journal of Lesbian Studies.
