When Annabelle Jackson came to Whatcom Community College from Flagstaff, Arizona, she wasn't planning on attending a community college. Looking back, she can't point to one specific reason she originally chose WCC, but she's grateful she did. 

Today, the WCC business student and women's soccer player says the College's close-knit community has become one of the highlights of her experience. 

"I moved to Bellingham without ever visiting beforehand and without knowing anyone within a thousand-mile radius," Annabelle said. "Before classes even started, my teammates and I spent countless hours together on and off the field." 

By October, she realized she couldn't remember the last time she'd felt homesick. 

She was originally drawn to business through conversations with her father about investing, the stock market, and how businesses operate. Annabelle plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete her bachelor's degree while continuing to play soccer. 

Outside the classroom and the soccer field, she embraces opportunities to become involved across campus. She has served as Campus Christian Fellowship Vice President, worked game-day operations for WCC Athletics, and will serve as ASWCC Vice President for Clubs and Unions during the 2026–27 academic year. 

Annabelle's advice for prospective students includes encouraging them to keep an open mind and carefully weigh all of their options. "Don't underestimate the value of starting at a community college," she said. Community college, she noted, offers an affordable education, time to develop before transferring, and, for student-athletes, valuable opportunities to gain playing experience.
