Allied health at Whatcom

Whatcom offers an associate in science (AS) in allied health for students entering healthcare-related careers. The degree has incorporated the common prerequisites and courses needed for applied health programs at Whatcom Community College and surrounding educational institutions. This program is designed to help students integrate foundational pre-health courses, explore careers in nursing and allied health, and navigate clear exit points for various pathways.

Transfer to University of Washington Bothell

Students who complete Whatcom’s AS degree in allied health may transfer to the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) to complete a bachelor of arts (BA) in health studies (uwb.edu) and start with junior standing.

Qualifying students will also be granted up to 45 credits of Credit by Examination for completing one of the following national certifications exams, thereby starting with senior standing:

• American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA-AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant Examination
• National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination (NPTE-PTA) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT)
• National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) National Certified Addiction Counselor, Level I (NCAC I)
