Applications received after the priority date may not be reviewed until grades are post for the final term. We encourage you to work with your advisor to make sure you are on track to complete your degree/certificate.

Exact dates can be found on the registration calendar.

Applications are active for four terms. You do not need to reapply if you do not complete the requirements in the first term of your application.

How do I apply for graduation?

Students apply for graduation in ctcLink. The "Apply for Graduation" tab is found on your student homepage under Academics (mobile) or Academic Progress tile (full site). This process works best when using a desk top computer versus a mobile device. Computers are available in the Learning Commons or in Orca Central for student use.

What if I already completed my requirements but forgot to apply to graduate?

If you finished the requirements prior to the current quarter, but forgot to apply earlier, please fill out the pdf graduation application and email to graduation@whatcom.edu. You will not be able to apply through ctcLink but will still be able to earn your degree or certificate if you met all requirements.

How do I get updates on my status?

If you applied for graduation by the priority date, the graduation department will send an email to your preferred email in time to adjust your graduation term schedule if needed to meet requirements.

Once we have received your application you can also view the status in ctcLink. From the Academic menu choose Apply for/View Graduation.

Graduation Status  What it Means
Application submitted  We received your graduation application.
On track to complete pending final grades  Prior course + current Classes will complete your requirements.
Degree has been awarded  Requirements completed- Congratulations!
Did not meet requirements-contact your advisor  You did not meet the requirements.
See email for requirements needed for final term  Your application was reviewed, and email sent with details for final requirements.
Missing requirements- contact your advisor  Your application was reviewed, and email sent with details of missing requirements. See your advisor.
Application expired or withdrawn  Four terms have passed without completing your requirements or your application was withdrawn.

If you applied after the priority date, you may not receive a response from us until after your final term has ended, grades have posted, and we have processed your application. The only status you will see is "Application Submitted", unless we review your application prior to the term ending.

We encourage you to make an appointment with an advisor to make sure you are on track to meet requirements.

What if I want to change my degree or certificate?

For changes after you have applied for graduation, please email graduation@whatcom.edu from your student email account if you have any changes for your degree/certificate graduation application, like change of degree, or change of graduation term.

Include your full name, last 4 digits of ctcLink ID# and the changes you want to make.

If you have not applied for graduation, you can use this form to make changes prior to applying.  MyWCC Login - Academic Plan Update (a secure login)

Students who have completed the requirements for an associate degree are eligible to receive a Washington State issued High School diploma. The High School Completion plan needs to be added to your ctcLink account. You will need to submit a separate graduation application for your High School Diploma.

You can email Graduation@whatcom.edu with a request to add this plan, or work with your academic advisor.

What happens after I finish my requirements?

Yeah! End of your last term has arrived. Now the final grades will be posted, graduation applications are reviewed, and degrees/certificates are posted to transcripts. This process can take several weeks to finish. If you still have requirements to complete your program, you will receive an email with details of the remaining requirements.

You can check graduation status in ctcLink in your Academic Progress or see if your degree is posted on your transcript.

If you need a transcript sent with your degree posted, please visit the transcript request webpage and order a transcript to be sent after degree or certificate is posted. You can order this transcript prior to your degree being posted by choosing the "Hold for degree" option when ordering.

When can I expect to receive my diploma?

Diplomas are ordered after all the degrees and certificates are posted and have been presented to the Board of Trustees. Diplomas are not the official proof of your degree. You should order a transcript for official proof of any degree or certificate. Late applicant diplomas will be ordered with the term when they were processed.

Please visit our diploma information webpage for more information.

Can I extend my graduation application?

Applications are valid for four terms. There is no need to reapply if you do not complete your requirements in the first term of your current application. We will send notification of your remaining requirements at the end of the first application term, update your graduation status in ctcLink to "Did not meet requirements" and your application will remain active for the next three terms.

For example: graduation applications submitted for fall remain active until the end of the next summer.

If you complete the requirements within the four terms, ctcLink will show a graduation status of "Degree has been awarded." If you do not complete the requirements within the four terms your application will expire, and the graduation status will say "Application expired or withdrawn."

We encourage you to continue working with your advisor toward completing your degree or certificate at Whatcom.
