Choose from WCC's menu of online options!

If you're interested in learning online, Whatcom offers a lot of variety:

Online courses without any scheduled meetings ("online asynchronous").
Online courses with scheduled times for the whole class to meet online ("online scheduled," also known as "web-meet").
Online courses with no class meeting times, but with in-person exams ("online asynchronous with in-person")
Partly online, partly in-person ("hybrid") courses.

Most of the class meeting times are during the day, although a few are in the evening.

Check the Class Search for details! Look for the "instruction mode" column to see whether a course is offered online and whether it has regular class meeting times. Visit the Instruction Modes page for full details.

Evening courses

Some courses just have evening class meetings. Other courses (hybrids) may meet in the evening but have some of their instruction online as well.

BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREES

ASSOCIATE TRANSFER DEGREES

Associate in Arts & Sciences (AAS/DTA) transfer degree
You can earn this degree online simply by choosing an online class for each of its requirements. Talk with your advisor to build an all-online degree plan.

Associate in Business transfer degree
You can earn this degree online simply by choosing an online class for each of its requirements.

Students who complete this degree are eligible to apply to WCC's applied bachelor's degree in Applied Business Management, or to a university to major in business, accounting, finance, marketing or other business specializations.

NON-TRANSFER GENERAL EDUCATION DEGREES

JOB-FOCUSED DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES

Job-focused degrees and certificates include an in-person internship. Certificates of proficiency are short, skill-based groups of courses and usually don't have internship requirements.

Business Administration - Associate of Applied Science
Note: one of this degree's courses is currently offered only on campus during the day. Students who complete this degree are eligible to apply to WCC's applied bachelor's degree in Applied Business Management.

Clerical Assistant - Certificate of Proficiency
Note: one of this certificate's courses is currently offered only on campus during the day.

Computer Information Systems - Associate of Applied Science
Many of this degree's courses are offered in an online format only once each year. Talk with an advisor to plan your sequence of courses. Students who complete this degree are eligible to apply to WCC's applied bachelor's degree in IT Networking-Cybersecurity.

Certificates in Computer Information Systems:

Cybersecurity - Associate in Applied Science-Transfer
Students who complete this degree are eligible to apply to WCC's applied bachelor's degree in IT Networking-Cybersecurity or to Western Washington University's cybersecurity bachelor of science degree program.

Office Administration Certificate

Software Development - Associate of Applied Science
Note: one of this degree's courses is currently offered only on campus during the day.

Substance Use Disorder Professional - Alternative Training certificate of proficiency
This three-course certificate of proficiency is open only to healthcare and mental healthcare workers already licensed in Washington state in roles requiring graduate-level credentials.

FIND ONLINE AND EVENING COURSES USING THE CLASS SEARCH

1. Open the class search.

You can get to the class search by clicking the first item in the Academics menu...

2. In the class search, click the More Filters button on the right side of the page.

3. Find online courses:

Open the Instruction Mode menu.

Select your preferred online option.

Click the dark red Search button.

Repeat these steps for each instruction mode that interests you.

4. Find evening courses:

Open the Start Time menu.

Select the earliest PM time you could be in class (for example, 5:00 PM).

Click the dark red Search button. All the courses that start at the time you selected, plus any that start later, will appear.

RESOLVING STUDENT COMPLAINTS

When you are enrolled in Whatcom Community College online courses, the college encourages you to make use of student support services such as distance advising, online tutoring, and tech help and other services available by phone, email and Zoom, as well as to contact your instructor by Canvas messaging or email.

If you encounter a problem that you cannot resolve using these resources and would like to lodge a complaint, please follow WCC's student complaint process outlined on this website.

If you are taking WCC online courses from outside Washington state and you have a consumer complaint about the college's activities or the accuracy of the information it provided (not a complaint against a faculty member), you may be able to benefit from the following special procedure. It applies to students located in almost every state (not Washington or California), the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As a first step, please contact the college directly. If you are not able to resolve your issue that way, the next step is to contact the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC). The Washington Student Achievement Council has authority to investigate student complaints against specific schools. WSAC may not be able to investigate every student complaint. Visit the student complaint process page on the WSAC website (https://www.wsac.wa.gov/student-complaints) for information regarding the WSAC complaint process.

BAD WEATHER? ONLINE COURSES CONTINUE

WCC eLearning Inclement Weather Procedure

In the event of inclement weather, all online courses, including the online portion of hybrid courses, will be conducted as scheduled. Closures or delays announced for the Whatcom Community College campus will not apply to online instruction. However, a closure or delay may affect an on-campus proctored exam for an online course. In such a case, the instructor will notify the students of the revised exam time and location.

A student whose normal access to the internet is interrupted by inclement weather (for example, because of a power outage) is expected to make an effort to meet course deadlines by going to another location with internet access. However, individuals must make decisions to protect their own health and safety if conditions make it unsafe to travel. A student who cannot reach a location with internet access should contact the instructor as soon as possible.

LOCATIONS WHERE WCC ONLINE COURSES ARE NOT OFFERED

WCC is not currently able to offer any online courses or programs to students living in the following locations:

American Samoa
Guam
Marshall Islands
Micronesia
Northern Mariana Islands
Palau

Some programs are not available to any students living outside Washington state:

High school completion (HS+)
Most programs that lead to professional licensure (students must be living in Washington for the program's core courses)
