Federal Student Loan Changes: 2026-27

A new federal law (the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, or OBBBA) makes several changes to federal student loans starting with the 2026–27 award year.

Federal Student Loan for September 2025 through August 2026 (current summer quarter)

If you are a current financial aid student interested in applying for a federal student loan for Summer Quarter 2026, part of the 2025-2026 academic year (fall 2025 through summer 2026), you can proceed once you receive a financial aid email notification regarding your ability to apply for a federal student loan OR an aid offer email notification indicating your FAFSA application has been reviewed, a your grant aid has been awarded. You must be enrolled for at least 6 credits (half-time) of aid eligible credits for Summer Quarter 2026 (current quarter). The processing of your 2025-26 federal student loans may take 2 to 3 weeks and you will receive multiple confirmation emails once your loan has been processed. Loans for 2026-2026 aid year cannot be processed after the quarter ends on August 21, 2026. Federal Student Loan for September 2026 through August 2027 is not yet available.

The 2026-2027 federal financial aid loan cycle (starting fall 2026) is not yet available. We expect the process to be available in mid-August 2026. Do not attempt to complete the following loan process as it is for the current summer quarter and aid year.
