Formerly English as a Second Language (ESL)
ELL classes are for any refugees, immigrants (undocumented or documented) or US citizens wanting to learn English.
- Please note: Students on au pair, tourist, visitor, or student visas are not eligible. Students with these visas should contact International Programs 360.383.3240 or email international@whatcom.edu.
How to apply:
Step 1: Apply in-person at Orca Central.
Orca Central is located inside the Heiner Building
Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Fridays 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Step 2: Take the CASAS placement test.
The CASAS test is a state required test that helps us know which class would be best. After receiving your application, we will contact you to schedule an appointment for CASAS testing.
Step 3: Register for classes.
After completing the CASAS test, you will meet with someone to help you register for class. Our program costs $25 per quarter.
Tuition & fees
Tuition is $25 per quarter for students enrolled in ELL/ESL classes. Waivers are available for those in need.

Classes
Morning Classes:
Monday- Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Night Classes:
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 6:30 p.m. - 8:50 p.m.
Quarters offered:
Fall = September to December
Winter = January to March
Spring = April to June
